In an interview with HT lifestyle, Dr. Avinash Srivastava, Senior Director – Urology and Kidney Transplant, Livasa Hospitals said, “Your urine can provide important information about your kidney condition. Because kidneys filter waste from your blood and additional fluids, some unusual abnormal problems in your urine may indicate any possible problems. Identifying these signs can take initial action to prevent kidney damage. ,
Dr. Avinash Srivastava further explained what urine color, smell and frequency can reveal about kidney health.
Urine color:
Light yellow, yellow: It is normal, and is a sign of good hydration.
Dark yellow or amber: You can be dehydrated. It can be assisted by drinking extra water.
Brown or cola colored: It may suggest liver problems or severe dehydration, but is also a sign in some cases of kidney disease.
Red or pink: Blood (hematuria) in the urine may indicate the bladder or kidney stones, infection, or potentially more severe conditions such as glomerulonephritis.
Smell of urine:

Urine clarity:
Clear urine: Good hygiene.
Cloud: It can be a sign of additional protein, and can be a sign of possible kidney dysfunction.
Urine frequency and volume:
Frequent urination, especially at night, may indicate early kidney problems or insufficient control of diabetes. Low urine production indicates potential obstructions, kidney damage or dehydration.

Presence of pain or discomfort:
A burning sensation, urination or pain pain in the lower back can all be signs of kidney stones, infection or inflammation.
