As a festival of Holi, it is important to take into account the safety of the eyes. While celebrating with colors, many people ignore the potential risks of their eyes, especially for those who wear contact lenses.

Doctors warned that chemicals in Holi colors can cause severe eye injuries or infections.

Some necessary suggestions have been made from eye experts to help protect your eyes during the celebration.

Dr. Sameer Sood, the sharp vision eye hospital co-founder and director of Delhi recommends caution during Holi as colors may contain harmful chemicals such as lead, mercury and chromium.

He says, “These can cause eye injury or permanent vision damage. Those wearing contact lenses should avoid them, as the color may get trapped under the lens, causing irritation, infection, or corneal damage. Instead, wear a protective eyewear such as sunglasses or dark glasses. After playing, rinse your eyes with clean water and avoid rubbing them, as it can cause corneal abrasion. If you experience pain or redness, consult an ophthalmologist immediately. ,

Dr. Ashish Amar, Senior Eye Advisor Faridabad at Maranggo Asia Hospitals also warns against wearing contact lenses during Holi.

He says, “Colors may stuck, which can cause irritation, infection or corneal damage.” Remove the lens before playing and wear glasses or protective eyewear instead. If the colors are found in your eyes, rinse and avoid rubbing immediately. If the pain persists, pay medical attention. For additional protection, use natural colors, tie your hair, and apply coconut oil around your eyes. ,

What to do if the color gets in your eyes:

If Holi color becomes in your eyes, rinse them well with clean water.

Do not rub your eyes, as it can give rise to irritation or damage.

If irritation or pain persists, consult an eye doctor immediately.

Other eye safety tips for Holi:

Opt to natural or organic Holi colors, which are less likely to damage your eyes.

While playing Holi, try to avoid touching your eyes or face.

Tie back your hair to prevent liquid colors from dripping into your eyes.

Apply coconut oil around your eyes to create a protective barrier.
