150 students from three residential schools in Gujarat suffer from cough and fever; 18 girls were hospitalized

Officials said on Sunday that 150 students from three government residential schools located within a campus in Surat district of Gujarat were suffering from viral infections and 18 of them were admitted to hospital with fever, officers Said on Sunday.

Vadi village in Umarpad taluka has a group of three residential schools with more than 650 male and female students.

Chief District Health Officer Dr. Anil Patel said that 150 of these students signed an upper respiratory tract infection with symptoms of cough and fever in the last three to four days.

He said that 18 students suffering from fever were admitted to a community health center on Saturday.

The district administration deployed a team of more than two dozen health workers to screen and take care of the students in the school premises, he said.

“We have instructed the principal to ensure that the aerial infection does not spread, and keeps students in isolation with facial masks with fever and cough. A medical team of 30 personnel is in the school premises, ”he said.

One of the three educational facilities, Sainik School Principal Jaideep Singh Rathod said that many students had complained of cough and fever in the last few days, after which they contacted the local health center.

“We contacted a nearby primary health center and examined the students. Among them, 18 students were admitted to a Community Health Center, ”he said.

Both boys and girls from residential schools were affected, but all girls admitted with fever, they said.

MLA and former Tribal Development Minister Ganpat Vaswa visited the school campus. “A team of Surat District Health Officer arrived at the school and investigated the students,” he said.
