The Union Ministry of Education on Thursday asked the Indian Institute of Management Institute (IIM), Rohtak to either suspend the institute director Dheeraj Sharma or to leave him until the investigation against him on the alleged misbehavior of money.

The director has also been asked to stay away from the IIM campus/rent area of ​​IIM Rohtak till further orders.

The allegations against Sharma include incorrectly involving IIM Rohtak’s financial health and using such manipulative data to pay a large amount of variable salary (more than Rs 1 crore for each year) to the director of IIM Rohtak from 2018-19.

President Draupadi Murmu ordered an inquiry into the alleged misconduct of public money in IIM Rohtak during Sharma’s tenure as the director of the institute earlier this month.

The investigation will also include Sharma’s educational qualification certificate and verification of other employees admitted to IIM.

The ministry also mentioned that Sharma’s degree certificate was repeatedly sought by the Ministry during his first term as director of IIM Rohtak from 2017 to 2022, but was not sent by IIM Rohtak until the end of his tenure.

The Center has also asked the board to hand over to another faculty member of IIM Rohtak who is not related to the financial matters of the institute.

“A formal letter in this regard has been sent to Jai Dev Shroff, Chairman of the Board, IIM Rohtak. The Ministry has also told the IIM Board that the proposal given for the revival of Neeraj Kansal has been canceled as a member of the board of IIM Rohtaka, as proposed for March 17.

Sources said, “The investigation will be done by Professor Manoj Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai as investigating officer. He has been asked to complete the investigation within three months.”
