The kids are paying the price for their fame

Gurmeet married Debina on February 15, 2011. His first daughter Liana was born in April last year and Divyasha was born in November the same year. Recently, he has started sharing his life on social media, due to which he is also trolled.

Gurmeet told us, “When we are actors and public figures, your life is not just yours… we make it public. We are working for all the people and want to get their love.”

He adds, “It was our decision to enter this profession and become a public figure. We wanted to be stars. And leading a public life that is open to everyone is the downside of that field.”

Initially, Gurmeet never thought that his kids would have to pay the price for his fame, but now he has learnt to deal with it. “We have learnt to deal with negativity. When it comes to our social media presence, 80-85 per cent is full of good and positive things, and 5 per cent is people trolling us and our kids,” the actor said.

Here, Gurmeet insists, “But we can’t do anything about it. Mostly we try to ignore the negative things and focus on the positive things being written about us. We focus on the love we get, and ignore the negativity targeted towards me and my family”.

On dealing with trolls

It’s not just his kids who get trolled on social media. At times, the actor has to face trolls in the virtual world as well. But he has learnt the art of ignoring the hate and focusing on the positive feedback he gets from his fans.

The actor, who is known for his work on television and digital platforms, said, “I don’t react to trolling. When I feel someone is intentionally making fun of me on social media, I just let go of that comment. I want to focus on the good comments on social media and that is something I practice. My focus is always on the good and positive comments and the comments of critics about my work. My intention is to know how I am doing and how I can improve to make my work better. I completely ignore trolls.”

On the reply of Commander Karan Saxena

The actor was recently seen in the web show Commander Karan Saxena released on Disney+ Hotstar. Directed by Jatin Wagle, the show depicts the story of a RAW agent who gets entangled in a big political mystery to save the country. Gurmeet plays the lead role in the show. He has also started his singing career with a rap song for this series.

Talking about the response the show has received, Gurmeet says, “The response has been very encouraging for the entire team.”

Gurmeet says, “After the show released, everyone from the liftman to the watchman of my society came up to me and asked me about the show, asked me when the next episode would come. Before the show, I got personalised T-shirts made for my entire team with the name of the show embossed on them. Some people stopped a guy from my team in a local train to inquire about the show. He was very excited to come up to me and tell me the whole incident.”

He added, “I was very touched to see that people were loving the show so much. I was really happy to see it, especially that people from all age groups watched it.”
