Google Trends has unveiled the top-searched movies and shows of 2024 globally. While many international shows have made their way to the top positions, the only Indian series that has made its name in this global list is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The show has ranked fourth globally among the most searched movies and shows in Google Trends in 2024. Baby Reindeer is trending at the number one spot, followed by Fallout and House of the Dragon. The fifth position has been secured by Shogun.

Additionally, Hiramandi also topped IMDb’s Most Popular Indian Web Series of 2024. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this series marks his OTT debut. Set in the backdrop of pre-independence India, the series highlights the lives of prostitutes, weaving a narrative rich with emotions and drama. The series features an ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Sehgal, Fardeen Khan and Jayati Bhatia, each of whom has given compelling performances in pivotal roles.

Hiramandi received mixed responses from the audience. Some internet users had claimed the period drama contained historical inaccuracies, ranging from how the pre-independence era Lahore area was depicted to certain elements on screen causing the timeline to be inaccurate. Not only this, Sharmin Sehgal’s performance in the show also faced criticism.
