This enchanting plant grows in the Himalayas, it is the father of medicines, protects from heart attack to cancer.

Srinagar Garhwal. Many herbs are found in nature, which cure many diseases. One such herb is Dolu (Rheum moorcroftianum). It is mainly found in the high Himalayan region of North India like Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. This plant is found in areas at an altitude of more than 3 thousand meters. This plant is also used as a vegetable by the people living in the Himalayan regions of North India. This is a herb species plant. The height of this plant ranges from 30 to 45 centimeters. Red and purple flowers bloom in this plant. This plant can be identified through these. Riodin, emodin and alpharuin chemical compounds are found in the roots of this plant, due to which the roots of this plant have many medicinal properties.

Dr. Jaidev, researcher at the High Peak Plant Physiology Research Center of Garhwal University, told Local 18 that when this plant becomes about four years old, then medicinal properties start developing in its roots.

Makes swelling and pain disappear

Dr. Jaidev explains that the roots of this plant have anti-inflammatory properties. Due to which swelling can be reduced by using its roots. If a person gets a sprain in his leg, then by making a paste of its roots and leaves, the swelling and pain starts reducing. With regular use it cures both swelling and sprain.

Millions of people would get bigger Social Security checks if Biden signs new bill

Millions of Americans could see their Social Security benefits boosted under a bill led by President Joe Biden — though critics warn the measure comes at the cost of pushing the fund toward bankruptcy.

If signed by the President before the new Congress convenes on January 3, the legislation would boost Social Security payments to more than 2 million beneficiaries, according to the Congressional Research Service. The increase – up to $550 per month for some retirees – will be retroactive to December 2023.

Those beneficiaries are mostly those who received foreign pensions or government employees such as police officers, firefighters and teachers who have contributed to a federal or state pension plan but have not paid Social Security taxes.

The law, called the Social Security Fairness Act, eliminates two formulas that reduce benefits for these workers who receive foreign and government pensions in addition to Social Security. Those provisions, known as the windfall elimination provision and the government pension offset, were enacted more than 40 years ago in response to the increase in the number of retirees who did not fully pay into Social Security. And more dual-income couples were retiring.

Sponsors of the legislation say the outgoing Congress overreacted and unfairly withheld benefits from retirees and their spouses.

Although the White House has not said whether Biden will sign the bill, it passed both chambers with bipartisan majorities: 327-75 in the House last month and 76-20 in the Senate on Saturday morning.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the bill would extend Social Security’s bankruptcy — now projected to occur by 2034 — over the next six months and add $196 billion to the budget deficit over the next 10 years. As a result, a typical couple retiring in 2033 could face a $25,000 cut in lifetime benefits, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

The Senate rejected an amendment from Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky that would have raised the retirement age to 70. Only three senators supported the amendment.

Beyond Ramanujan, National Mathematics Day recognizes the important role of mathematics in our everyday lives. Math is essential for everything, from simple tasks like calculating grocery bills to complex scientific challenges. This day reminds us how mathematics helps solve real-world problems, advance technology and contribute to global progress.

Following are some interesting facts about the life and career of Srinivasa Ramanujan:

  1. Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu, into a Brahmin Iyengar family. He became interested in mathematics at an early age and by the age of 12 he had mastered trigonometry. After this he became eligible for a scholarship to the Government Arts College, Kumbakonam.
  2. Ramanujan studied at the Government College, Kumbakonam, where he failed the examinations due to his dislike of non-mathematical subjects.
  3. He started as a clerk at the Madras Port Trust in 1912, where his mathematical talents attracted the attention of colleagues. One sent him to Professor GH Hardy at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1913 he met Hardy and they went to college.
  4. Ramanujan received a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1916. With Hardy’s help he published several papers on his subject. The two also collaborated on several joint projects.
  5. In 1917, Ramanujan was elected to the London Mathematical Society. The following year, he was elected to the prestigious Royal Society for his work on elliptic functions and number theory. He also created history as the first Indian to become a Fellow of Trinity College.
  6. Ramanujan returned to India in 1919 and breathed his last on 26 April the following year due to failing health. He was only 32 years old.
  7. An anecdote from Robert Kanigel’s biography ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’ throws light on Ramanujan’s genius. Hardy traveled by taxi number 1729 to meet the ill Ramanujan. During their conversation, Hardy mentioned that this seemed to be a fairly common number. Ramanujan pointed out that this is the smallest number that can be expressed in two different ways as the sum of two cubes (1729=1^3+12^3=9^3+10^3). Although it may not be his greatest contribution, it is certainly one of the most memorable.

ISRO astronaut spends 21 days in capsule: From dry toilet, mini-kitchen to fold-away bed – know all the surprising elements mint

0

India’s first space simulation project is in full swing after ISRO tested Hub-1, an egg-shaped space pod that could serve as the future home of India’s astronauts. This comes in the wake of ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission, scheduled for 2025, which plans to send astronauts to orbit 248 miles up for three days.

With a plan to prepare astronauts for actual space missions, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) recently tested Hub-1 for three weeks in the high Himalayan mountains of Ladakh. According to experts, Ladakh’s “rocky, barren landscape and soil has similarities with materials and rocks found on Mars and parts of the lunar surface that make it ideal for space research,” the BBC reports.

Space Pod Hub-1 Element

The news outlet said Hub-1 includes a fold-away bed that can be taken out and used as a workstation. Other surprising elements that are part of Hub-1 include a mini-kitchen to heat food and a toilet, in addition to storage space to keep supplies and emergency kits. During the simulation period, an astronaut spent three weeks in it. Meanwhile, NASA is training two of the four Indian astronauts involved in the mission.

“Hab-1 has been designed keeping in mind that the space on the Moon or Mars will be very limited… the astronauts will also have very limited space,” Aka company’s space architect Aastha Kacha was quoted as saying by the BBC. There would be water, so we designed a dry toilet.” Like Jhala says.

Aastha further said that the designers of the space pod have created a system for proper disposal of waste and ensure that the habitat remains odor free. This is an important step towards setting up India’s first space station by 2035 and sending a man to the Moon by 2040.

‘Every move was planned’: ISRO test astronaut

Detailing how the test mission went, the test astronaut said everything was scheduled, from waking up to when to sleep. 24×7 cameras monitored every movement and sent data about my activities and health,” said the 24-year-old, who was isolated from the human environment for 21 days and spent this time in the capsule.

National Mathematics Day 2024: The essential role of mathematics in shaping the innovators of the future

0

There are few things in education systems around the world that strike as much terror in the hearts and minds of students as mathematics. According to a Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) study of 15-year-old students from 38 OECD member countries, 61% of students are worried about their math grades, with 59% feeling stressed at the thought of attending their math classes. Is. , 33% are afraid of their math homework, and 30% feel helpless to do anything.

The most dangerous thing about such a crippling fear of mathematics is that it often creates a loop – the more students fear mathematics, the less likely they are to understand it or score well in it, And the poor performance will further increase after this. Fear…all of this ends up leaving the student feeling powerless and frustrated.

It is nothing short of tragic that a subject as fundamental to a child’s education as mathematics should be the source of so much suffering to young minds during a large part of the most important years of their learning. Ask any teacher and they will tell you shocking stories about the things hapless students have done to eliminate any questions about learning mathematics from their lives as quickly as possible.

There are two kinds of stupidity here: a lack of deep understanding of the role mathematics plays in a student’s academic and future life; And equally, why is it that students are being taught in a way that is scaring them and depriving them of a very important academic and life skill? Something hasn’t been working for a long time, and yet we keep doing it instead of fixing the problem. This approach makes no sense.

Mathematics is an important component for success… In every area!

Excellence in mathematics goes far beyond tests, exams, and scores. Good scores in mathematics tests may give students an advantage in choosing preferred colleges and universities for higher education, but this is only a short-term benefit. Mathematics actually continues to play a role in a student’s life even after schooling is over.

It is only through mathematics that students can create new knowledge and understanding about the world using what is already known – because mathematics, at its foundation, is the craft of deduction and abstraction.

Mathematics helps children:

  1. Make a habit of breaking down complex problems into smaller, solvable parts rather than becoming overwhelmed by the complexity of the whole.
  2. Once they base their reasoning for doing or not doing something on the analysis of data, they gain confidence in their decision making.
  3. Develop sharp critical thinking skills because once students become comfortable with the numbers in front of them, they are able to synthesize, analyze, and recognize patterns to gain interesting insights about the questions they need to answer. Trying to.
  4. Be more imaginative, as they create creative hypotheses around the problems they are trying to solve based on the information they have.
  5. Look for accuracy and clarity in the work they do because numerical evidence leads to absolute conclusions.

But for students to truly benefit from all that math has to offer, even if they don’t intend to pursue STEM, we need to change the way we introduce it to them.

There has been some debate within mathematics in recent years about the linearity of learning. Generally, children around the first follow the following path: basic calculation (addition, subtraction) >> multiplication >> division >> algebra >> geometry >> trigonometry >> calculus (peak).

But an interesting school of thought believes that mathematics would be much more enjoyable and interesting for children if its learning pace followed the way humans think and how children grow and learn. If a child’s imagination is shining at its peak while they are still exploring the universe around them, shouldn’t they be learning about math concepts that relate to constant change, patterns, and structure (basically, Calculus) is related to?

Proponents of this theory strongly believe that forcing children to begin their mathematical journey through the rules of calculation is not only detrimental to development as it clogs up their neural pathways, but also makes the subject so tedious. Gives that most children want to avoid. And thus begins the journey of disinterest due to which students fall behind rapidly in mathematics, as a result of which they leave the subject completely.

It is undeniable that radical change in breaking down the hierarchies of learning in mathematics is still a long way off, especially within formal learning structures and systems.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t make math learning fun and engaging for kids on an individual level. We have to make mathematics real and bring it closer to life.

Show students how mathematics appears in the arrangement of notes in music; In the ratio of elements in art; In physics the movements of planets and galaxies in the universe; how the most subtle fluctuations within our bodies can have huge effects on our biology; From microscopic quantities in chemistry, to special arrangements of words and sounds in English that can produce a desired reaction… math is everywhere, and in the most beautiful ways possible.

The conclusion that comes from this is that we need to accept that a one-size-fits-all approach to mathematics is not how we can encourage a sense of wonder for the subject in children. While we can help children become faster and more accurate in their calculations through mental math tricks practiced through puzzles, we need to use visual learning tools and visual learning tools based on their special interests, to make math learning last. There is also a need to supplement this learning through simulation. Throughout life.

All this is possible only when parents and teachers work together to rewrite the story of mathematics in the minds of students, not with exam results, but with an aspiration for deeper understanding and innovation. Since the biggest reason students fear math is poor performance, not poor understanding, what if we changed the end goal by helping children understand and not just memorize math for a short-term goal?

Imagine a term where children use mathematics as a lifelong tool for understanding the world rather than as a daunting task on their growing up checklist. It will be a world full of inventors and creators.

Do you think Sattu is desi protein powder? Nutritionist reveals the shocking reality of popular protein choices

Protein is an integral part of a balanced diet. This makes the diet more effective. However, many Indians who are vegetarian find it challenging to include enough protein in their diet, often mistakenly assuming that some common foods are rich in protein when they may not be.

Nutritionist and weight loss coach Mohita Mascarenhas explains why many Indians believe that certain foods, such as sattu, lentils, chia seeds and some other sources, are high in protein, when in fact, they contain very little protein. It happens. They do not meet our daily protein requirements.

Pulses or pulses are a major part of Indian cuisine, found in almost every plate and are often considered to provide adequate protein. But Mohita highlighted the actual protein contribution of pulses. “Most Indians believe that a bowl of dal is good enough to meet their needs, but a bowl does not contain more than four to five grams of protein,” he said.

The nutritionist told that it is the same for dear Sattu. Sattu is consumed frequently among Indians. It is prepared from dry roasted grains and is also called roasted gram flour. According to nutritionists, many people underestimate its nutritional potential and consider it a protein powder. “Everyone thinks it’s some kind of protein powder, whereas a glass of sattu contains no more than five to seven grams of protein,” he said.

Mushrooms seem like a great protein source for vegetarians. But this is a flawed misconception. Mohita addressed this and highlighted that vegetables are not good protein sources as 100 grams of mushroom contains only 3 grams of protein.

The nutritionist also burst this bubble, as she explained the nutritional value of peanut butter and reminded her followers that both peanut butter and peanuts are better sources of fat than protein. “2 tablespoons of peanut butter will give you about 200 grams of calories and 10 grams of protein,” he said.

Almond

Some people may eat almonds thinking they are meeting their daily protein requirement. But it may be causing more harm than good as, as nutritionists point out, they are a better source of fat than protein.

Quinoa and Millet

Quinoa and millet are also popular health-friendly options that are on the rise and people are adopting them on a large scale. But are they rich in protein? Looks like the story is the same old. Mohita said that quinoa and millet contain the same amount of protein as wheat, which is about 13 grams per 100 grams without cooking. Therefore, in terms of protein, it is not much advanced than wheat.

protein bar

Protein bars generally claim to meet protein needs. But this also falls short because the reality is very different. The nutritionist reminded that protein bars contain more sugar than protein. He recommended protein powder in place of protein bars.

chia seeds

Chia seeds are a superfood and packed with nutrients like antioxidants, but what about protein? Mohita told that two tablespoons of raw tea seeds contain 4 grams of protein.

Nutritionists concluded that although these foods contain small amounts of protein, they should not be the sole source of protein because they are not sufficient.

Pakistan: News anchor becomes latest victim of ‘deep-fake threat’ after explicit video goes viral. today news

0

A Pakistani news anchor has been embroiled in controversy after explicit videos in her name started circulating online. The incident comes just weeks after an erotic deep-fake video of prominent politician Azma Bukhari went viral. Digitally altered videos have become increasingly common in recent years – often weaponized to defame famous women in a country with conservative customs.

News anchor Mona Alam – best known for hosting a popular show on Hum News – however decided to fight the matter head-on by contacting the concerned authorities. Details shared by the journalist on X indicate that a complaint was filed with the Cyber Crime Division of the Federal Investigation Agency in Islamabad. He also alleged that the woman shown in the explicit clip was a ‘proven criminal’.

“The objectionable video of this woman is being spread on social media by petty haters, claiming that it is me. She herself is a proven criminal and hence is posting her actual screen grab for the sake of clarity. I have transferred agencies. My character is impeccable and all campaigners against it will face the music!” she wrote earlier this week.

Deep-fake videos have become a recurring issue for Pakistan amid increasing internet usage in recent years. It was also at the center of a digital debate during the elections as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf used AI tools to create a clip of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The somewhat dark side of technology also makes it uniquely suited to humiliating women.

Bukhari – a Punjab minister who regularly appears on TV – had remained silent for days after a video of his face being superimposed on an Indian actor’s sexualized body in a clip spread rapidly on social media.

“When this came to my knowledge I was devastated,” she told AFP earlier this month.

A case has been registered against the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIM) director and seven professors for discriminating against a Dalit associate professor on the basis of his caste, police said on Saturday.

Based on the complaint by the associate professor, a case was registered against the IIMB director and other faculty members on Friday under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Indian Judicial Code.

“We received the complaint and a case was registered. However, those named in the FIR claimed that they obtained the stay order from the court the same evening. But we have not received the order yet,” said a senior official.

Based on an investigation report by the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE), the Social Welfare Department directed the state police chief to initiate legal action on the complaint of the said associate professor.

According to the police, IIMB associate professor Gopal Das alleged that the eight people knowingly disclosed and publicized their caste at the workplace and that they were denied equal opportunities.

He further alleged that he was also threatened and mentally harassed.

In a statement released earlier, IIMB claimed that rather than facing harassment or discrimination, Das has received all kinds of support from the institute since his recruitment in 2018, including when he started applying for the post of assistant professor but was rejected. Was offered the role of Associate. Professor on the basis of his qualification and experience.

According to IIMB, he has received significant incentives since joining IIMB for his research and teaching, in addition to his salary as Associate Professor as per the 7th Central Pay Commission of the Government of India. He has held positions of responsibility including Chairman, Institutional Review Board; Member, Career Development Services Committee and Member, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

He has taught courses of his choice in various academic programs of the institute.

“Dr. Das’s allegations of discrimination against the institute and its faculty came to light only after his application for promotion was put on hold due to harassment complaints lodged against him by some doctoral students. An inquiry was conducted by IIMB as per rules, involving an eminent academic from the SC category from a reputed institute, which found that the complaints of the students were justified.”

“IIMB is committed to fostering an inclusive academic community and will uphold its legacy of excellence and integrity and will take appropriate action in consultation with legal experts,” the statement said.
