Russia is currently in the most difficult situation in the war against Ukraine that has been going on for more than two years. The Ukrainian army has entered Russia up to Kursk. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who once dreamed of easily capturing Donetsk and Luhansk by attacking Ukraine, would not even imagine that one day he would have to struggle to save his own land. President Putin is blaming NATO for the attack of the Ukrainian army and is claiming to teach it a lesson. In this effort, he is now trying to bring new countries together. However, in this episode, he went to Azerbaijan, which threatens India.
Will Azerbaijan cut off energy supplies to the West?
Russian news agencies reported that President Putin has gone to the capital Baku on a two-day state visit. Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan becomes very important because this country is a country of both Russia and Turkey, but it also supplies a large amount of energy to Western countries. In such a situation, it is believed that in his meeting with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, he can talk about cutting off supplies to Western countries.
In a statement issued by the Kremlin, it was said, ‘The agenda of the talks has been set to further advance the strategic partnership and mutual relations between Russia and Azerbaijan as well as to discuss current international and regional issues. Several agreements will be made during this visit, after which the presidents of both countries will issue a joint statement. These will include inter-governmental and other agreements.’
When the President of Azerbaijan threatened India
It is worth noting here that Azerbaijan is the same country that had warned India in a threatening tone. Actually, when there was a war going on between Azerbaijan and Armenia a few months ago, President Ilham Aliyev had demanded India to stop supplying arms to Armenia. However, his words seemed less like a demand and more like a threat.
Responding to a question from journalists at a COP29 event in the capital Baku, Aliyev had said that this is an issue related to the security of our country. Countries like France, India, Greece are supplying arms to Armenia against us. In such a situation, we cannot sit idle. He had said, ‘We have made our stand clear to Armenia and the countries supplying arms to it. If there is a threat to the security of our country, we will take action against it. Armenia is increasing its military strength against us. It is deploying its soldiers on our border. In such a situation, we cannot remain silent.’
