He has now ended the controversy by renouncing his Canadian citizenship. He gave up his Canadian citizenship last year and acquired an Indian passport. The superstar said on his decision that he had been planning to do this for a long time, which has nothing to do with the tension between the two countries.
Akshay Kumar decided to give up his Canadian citizenship when his relations with India started deteriorating. Akshay Kumar expressed happiness on getting Indian passport
Akshay Kumar further said, ‘I am an Indian by mind, heart and soul and will always be so, so I never cared about it, but about 3-4 years ago I had said on stage that I will leave it. ‘ It took some time and I got my passport on 14 or 15 August last year. Akshay had shared a picture of his government documents, which proves that he has got Indian citizenship. Akshay had written in the caption accompanying the post, ‘Heart and citizenship, both Hindustani.’
