Canberra. There was chaos in a domestic flight of Australia when a passenger started running naked in its gallery. During this he also pushed down the flight attendant and the plane was forced to return. The accused person was arrested by the police at the airport.
The incident happened at 3:30 pm on Monday night on a Virgin Australia Airlines flight, which was destined from the west coast city of Perth to Melbourne on the east coast. A statement from the airline said flight VA696 returned to Perth Airport because of a “disturbing passenger”.
Virgin Airlines said Australian Federal Police officers were waiting on the runway for the flight to return and that the “troublemaker” was removed as soon as the flight landed.
Police said, “Officers arrested a man after he allegedly ran naked on a plane mid-flight and threw a crew member to the floor.” A police statement said, “The man has been taken to a hospital for examination, where he remains.” It is not clear how and where the passenger removed his clothes on the plane.
Police hope to issue a summons to the man to appear in court in Perth on June 14. However, it is not yet decided what charges he will face. The airline apologized to other passengers on the flight for the entire incident and said that the safety of passengers and crew members was its top priority.
Both the airline and police declined to comment beyond their statements. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that it had learned that no one was injured during the incident.
