New Delhi. The magic of electric vehicles has spread throughout the world in the last few years. But now it seems that this ‘fever’ has started to subside. Many EV owners are now regretting their decision and are willing to buy diesel or petrol vehicles again. EV vehicles are definitely less expensive than petrol or diesel two-wheelers and four-wheelers, but there are some problems due to which the buyer considers himself ‘stuck’. A recent survey conducted by the car app ‘Park Plus’ revealed that 51 percent of the people who buy EVs in India want to buy a vehicle with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) again. That is, they feel that a vehicle running on diesel, petrol or CNG is the right one.

There is not just one problem with EVs, but many. From charging, maintenance to security, there are some things that an EV owner has to deal with on a daily basis. As a result, when he faces these problems and compares an IEC vehicle with an EV, he finds that currently buying an EV vehicle, especially an electric car, is not at all profitable in India. Today we will discuss the most prominent problems related to EVs.

Charging is a big challenge
The number of charging stations in India is still low. In metro cities, things still work out, but finding a charging point in small towns and on highways and expressways is a difficult task. As a result, it is difficult to travel long distances with electric cars. In such a situation, a person finds himself stuck after buying an EV.

The battery makes everything equal
It is cheaper to run an electric vehicle. Its cost per kilometer is much less than diesel and petrol vehicles. EV cars are cheaper than CNG cars in terms of mileage. But, the battery used in EV is very expensive. In such a situation, a lot of money is spent on replacing the battery after the warranty period. In such a situation, the money that is saved by running it as compared to a diesel or petrol car, is spent on buying the battery. That is, the account is equal.

Effect of weather
Weather has a huge impact on EVs. There is a risk of battery explosion in hot weather, while in extremely cold weather its battery gives less range. That is, it lasts less on a single charge. In India, incidents of fire in EVs are reported almost every day during summers.

Difficulty in maintenance
Some EV owners surveyed by Park Plus said that their EV cars are like a “black box” which they could not understand. Their maintenance is a big problem. Local mechanics cannot solve minor problems and the vehicle has to be taken to the company’s authorized dealer. Currently, there are no dealers everywhere. In such a situation, its maintenance is a very difficult task.

Problem with resale
The resale market for electric vehicles, especially cars, has not yet developed in India. Selling an old EV is more difficult than selling a petrol or diesel vehicle. The resale value is also very low. There is no logical way to determine the value of a vehicle yet. This is the reason that if an EV has to be sold, it fetches very little value.
