‘We will build a temple and also feed Dhokla’: Mamata takes a dig at PM Modi’s ‘Paramatma’ statement

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘biological being’ remark. CM Mamata Banerjee said that gods should not do politics and incite riots. She pointed to the 2002 Godhra riots, which took place when Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

“Someone says he (PM Modi) is the god of gods… a leader says Lord Jagannath is his devotee… if he is a god, then a god should not do politics. A god should not incite riots. We will build a temple for him and worship him there, offer prasad, flowers and if he wants, we will even feed him dhokla,” the Trinamool Congress chief quipped.

In a recent interview AyraNews24x7Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that after his mother’s death, he felt that he was not a ‘biological being’. PM Modi further stressed that he was sent to earth by God. He said that ‘Paramatma’ had sent him to earth for a ‘purpose’.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra also made headlines recently when he described Lord Jagannath as “Modi’s devotee”. Following a sharp backlash, Patra immediately apologised, saying his statement was a result of a momentary lapse.

CM Mamata Banerjee further said, “I have worked with many Prime Ministers, like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who loved me very much. I worked with Manmohan Singh, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, Deve Gowda… I have not seen anyone like him, there is no need for such a Prime Minister.”

Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the Trinamool Congress will complain to the Election Commission if Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation at Kanyakumari is telecast on television. She claimed it would be a violation of the model code of conduct.

According to BJP leaders, after the Lok Sabha election campaign ends on May 30, Modi is scheduled to meditate at the Rock Memorial, a memorial built to pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda in Kanyakumari.

“We will complain. He can meditate, but it cannot be telecasted,” he said, claiming it would be a “violation of the code of conduct”. “Does one have to take a camera to meditate?” he asked, claiming it was a way to campaign during the silence period between the end of the campaign and the polling date.

According to BJP leaders, Modi will meditate from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1 at Dhyan Mandapam, the place where Modi’s favourite spiritual icon Vivekananda had a divine vision about ‘Bharat Mata’.
