Netflix is a new crime thriller directed by Waterfront Kevin Williamson, inspired by his childhood in Northern Carolina.
Waterfront is the latest addition to Netflix’s own Catalog of Crime Thrillers. Directed and created by Kevin Williamson, the show is closely associated with important events since his childhood. Keeping in mind the deep personal nature of this project, it is no wonder that Williamson chose to return to a place with which he is all familiar and comfortable: Northern Carolina.

Importance of northern carolina
Although there is no one-or-one place, there is no doubt that Northern Carolina has been a repetitive favorite of Williamson in its 30-year career trajectory. After directing the iconic pieces of the history of pop culture like Dawson’s creak, I know what you did in the last summer, and the fifth scream film, Wilmington (a small city in northern Carolina) is a common string to bind and show these films together.
Since the waterfront is a heavy -dependent story on a heavy location, the northern Carolina Williamson’s Henports out to provide the right background for the fictional city. Along with Wilmington, several places in Southport have also been used for filming. Williamson told screen rant, “I grew up in northern Carolina, as you know, a very, in a very small city, very much Southport, where we filmed the show.”
Waterfront plot
Waterfront tells the story of a family patriarchy that struggles to maintain its family relations through its fishing and restaurant business and ultimately resort to smuggling of drugs to end. It is a direct reflection of Williamson’s childhood, where his father, whom he considered the “greatest person alive”, was a fisherman, who finally failed to meet and later imprisoned for drug trafficking.
