What you will learn:

As a design student at the University of Cambridge, this course will help you learn how small- and large-scale design impacts people, cultures, economies and the natural world, as explained on the university’s website.

Additionally, the curriculum covers the design of physical objects, apps, artificial intelligence, and electronics.

The course, which is structured around a series of core studio projects, aims to help students create solutions to real-world problems.

Most of the teaching of the course will take place in the design studio and design projects will be displayed at the end of each year.

The university said the curriculum will also include lectures, seminars, workshops and supervisions to develop practical and professional skills that can be used in design projects.

How are you students assessed?

Students are assessed on their studio work at the end of each term through a combination of portfolios, presentations and coursework.

According to the university, these constitute 50 percent of the total marks of the students every year. The remaining 50 percent marks will be from the remaining courses.

Who are the teachers?

Design courses at the University of Cambridge are taught by practicing engineers, architects and designers in studio academics.

Students will be based in the Department of Architecture and will have access to a range of facilities such as workshops, studios, reprographics, digital fabrication labs and computer workstations.

Course Cost:

At the University of Cambridge, students have two main costs to consider – tuition fees and cost of living.

According to the University, there are general study costs that will apply to all students.

The university says that tuition fees for international students depend on the course they are studying. For courses such as Architecture, Design, Geography and Music, the course fee for 2025 entry is £35,358.

In design courses, there may be additional costs for equipment and filed visits.

For equipment costs, students will need safety shoes which come at an estimated cost of £30. The department bears all the costs of materials for model making and drawings.

However, this does not include basic stationery and consumables such as pens, pencils and glue.

On the other hand, students are required to undertake a mandatory field trip in the first year. The university explained that the department covers the costs of travel, admission fees and accommodation and that students are only required to bring money for subsistence (food and drinks).

According to the University of Cambridge, design courses open doors to the following careers for students:
