Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will soon be seen in Raj & DK’s web series Citadel: Honey Bunny. On Thursday, the teaser of the Indian version of the Amazon Prime series Citadel was released followed by a press meet. Varun opened up about shooting for the series amid Samantha’s myositis diagnosis. ‘I have never seen a co-star struggle and become successful’
Varun opened up about Samantha shooting for Citadel when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called myositis. “Honestly, my preparation was a lot easier than Samantha’s. It’s well known what she faced when she joined the show. I thought my rehearsals were tough but then I saw her incredible work despite her struggles and that really inspired me,” he said.
He said that Samantha inspired him and the rest of the team with her dedication during the shoot despite all the difficulties. He said, “I have never been on a shoot or creative process before where I have seen a co-star go through such challenges. When you see someone struggle with something and still succeed, you learn a lot about human resilience and strength. Samantha inspired not only me, but also Raj, DK, Sita and everyone at Amazon. Her dedication towards this action show is truly inspiring.”
‘While shooting for the series, I fainted and suffered a head injury’
In March this year, Samantha revealed on her health podcast, Take 20, that shooting for the series was difficult. Speaking to her co-host and wellness coach, Alkesh Sharotri, she said, “I had to finish Kushi (her Telugu film with Vijay Deverakonda), and I had to shoot for Citadel, which is very physical. It involves a lot of action. So it was very tiring.”
She also revealed that she would get convulsions or faint during the shoot, and Alkesh would be called to help her, saying, “You (Alkesh) were called several times in the middle of the shoot – she was having convulsions, cramps. I fainted and got a head injury.”
Let us tell you that Samantha took a break from work after being diagnosed with myositis in 2022. The autoimmune condition forced her to recuperate and take it slow.
