India will create defense attaches in more countries of Africa, Asia

In response to growing geopolitical rivalry, India will deploy defense attaches for the first time to Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Armenia, Philippines and Poland as part of its broader policy initiative to strengthen strategic ties with key regions. New Delhi is also handing over a new defense at Ataba to Djibouti, a small African country that serves as an important maritime gateway to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and is considered a desirable location for military bases. The next defense attache to Djibouti will be the second person to hold the post on the island nation. Additionally, New Delhi intends to rationalize the number of teams of military officers at its embassy in Moscow and High Commission in London.

SBI refuses to disclose electoral bond details

State Bank of India (SBI) has refused to disclose details of electoral bonds submitted to the Election Commission (EC) under the RTI Act. The bank said this is personal information that is stored in a fiduciary capacity, even though the records are publicly available on the poll panel’s portal. The Supreme Court on February 15 directed SBI to provide the Election Commission with complete details of bonds purchased since April 12, 2019, saying the electoral bond scheme was “unconstitutional and clearly arbitrary”. On receiving the details from the bank, the EC was required to publish the information on its website by March 13.

Bengaluru blast case accused caught from Kolkata

In a major win for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), two suspects in the Rameshwaram cafe blast were caught from Kolkata on April 12. Musawir Hussain Shajib and Abdul Mathin Taha allegedly carried out the blast on March 1. Musavir Hussain Shajib, the main accused, had planted the IED inside Rameshwaram Cafe. On the other hand, Abdul Mathin Taha is said to be a co-conspirator of the attack. Both the suspects, residents of Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district of Karnataka, were traced to East Medinipur district of West Bengal. Sources indicated that DNA samples were recovered from a baseball cap that was thrown at a religious place shortly after the blast. The NIA is expected to use the samples to confirm the identity of those arrested.

‘Our mission has increased outreach initiatives: MEA on deaths of Indian students in US.’

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has stepped up its student outreach initiatives in the United States in view of the increasing deaths of Indian students in a series of unfortunate incidents in the first three months of this year. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that about ten students have died since January. He further said that matters related to law and order issues are under investigation and the Embassy and Consulates have reached out and offered all possible help. The alarming rise in the number of Indian-origin students dying in the US has prompted the Indian diaspora body in the US to call for action from public and private organizations.

PM Modi chairs meeting to review preparedness to deal with heat wave situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviews preparedness for heat wave conditions and calls for coordinated action by all stakeholders at Centre, State and District levels amid forecast of extreme weather conditions in most parts of the country during April-June Did. He also stressed on timely dissemination of necessary Information, Education and Communication (IEC) awareness materials, especially in regional languages, through all platforms such as television, radio and social media. PM Modi also reviewed the preparedness in hospitals in terms of availability of essential medicines, ORS, drinking water, intravenous fluids and ice packs.
