The student used fake certificates to get admission into the MBBS program under SC quota at Motilal Nehru Medical College in 2018.
A local court on Tuesday sentenced a student to seven years’ imprisonment and fined him Rs 11,000 for gaining admission to MBBS at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj by using a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate.
Amit Kumar Bind, a resident of Ibrahim Pur village of Gopiganj, initially took admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya with an OBC certificate.
However, on 23 March 2010, he allegedly obtained a forged certificate identifying him as belonging to the Khatik caste, which falls under the SC category. Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyan said she used this certificate to get admission into the MBBS program at Motilal Nehru Medical College under the SC quota in 2018.
The matter came to light when Vijay Bahadur alias Vishram, a resident of Gopiganj, lodged a complaint on June 7, 2018.
After investigation, a case was registered against Amit Kumar Bind and charge sheet was filed in the court.
Katyayan said that after the FIR was filed, the medical college canceled Bind’s admission and expelled him.
Special Public Prosecutor Ramesh Chandra said that the case was heard in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon.
He said that after hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court found Bind guilty and sentenced him to seven years in jail and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 11,000.
