India’s top human resource and skill development leaders held a meeting in Delhi on Friday to collaborate to solve the jobs and talent crisis in the country.
The first-of-its-kind initiative aims to bridge the skills gap and employability, making India’s workforce future-ready and globally competitive.
Notably, the event is in line with the collaboration of National Skill Development Corporation and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) India under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which seeks to create pathways for the future and build actionable frameworks. Industry leaders and senior HR professionals came together to discuss strategies for re-skilling and upskilling the corporate and industrial workforce.
Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Managing Director of NSDC International (NSDCI) spoke about the collaboration and said that both NSDC and SHRM are purpose-driven organisations, adding that the partnership aims to make India a better To impart skills. “We want our staff to be skilled and so it is important that we can help them retrain and upgrade in response to skills gaps. It is imperative that we not only unlock value for each employee but this unlocking should also happen at the company and industry level and overall, this will address the larger skill requirements for the entire country,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari further stressed that accelerating the pace of skilling is essential to transform India into a $5 trillion economy by 2025.
Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM, India APAC & MENA, highlighted the importance of skilling initiatives for India’s workforce and said that HR Leadership Council Connect serves as a transformational platform that bridges the gap between the corporate world and the skills ecosystem. Bridges. ,
He explained that it aims to create an efficient skills eco-system that is adaptable and meets the current and future needs of the workforce.
As part of the initiative, discussions were also held, which included presentations from senior leadership on business verticals of NSDC and interactive focus group discussions with three groups, aimed at identifying sector-specific skill gaps and opportunities for collaboration. During the event, participants from various sectors such as IT, telecom, energy and automobile shared best practices with the aim of developing actionable insights to create a future-ready workforce.
Additionally, CHROs from India’s largest companies discussed in detail the changing industry landscape across the corporate spectrum and the skill gap created by it. According to the CHRO, new technologies especially in areas like robotics, IoT, electric battery technologies, semi-conductors etc. have resulted in skill gap at various levels, which needs to be bridged.
