The instructions make it mandatory for all teachers, including instructors (‘Instructors’) and para teachers (‘Shiksha Mitras), to display photographs within classrooms (Representational Image)
The display should include each teacher’s educational qualification, date of joining the school, mobile number, assigned class and subject and any achievements such as state or national teacher awards.
Photographs of all teaching staff will now be displayed on the walls of public schools in Uttar Pradesh to curb teacher absenteeism and use of proxies.
The Uttar Pradesh government has issued instructions to all the district basic education officers in this regard.
These instructions make it mandatory for all teachers, including instructors (‘Instructors’) and para teachers (‘Shiksha Mitras), to display photographs within the classrooms.
The display should include each teacher’s educational qualification, date of joining the school, mobile number, assigned class and subject and any achievements such as state or national teacher awards.
“Displaying photographs of teachers in schools will help students and administration to easily differentiate between genuine teachers and substitute teachers,” an official said.
“Implementation should not be difficult for schools even with 10-15 teachers, as photographs will not require significant space,” he added.
Funding for this initiative comes from the overall education outlay for the 2024-25 academic session.
The government has allocated Rs 7.9 crore for teaching learning materials in primary schools and Rs 3.3 crore for upper primary schools under the Learning Enhancement Program Remedial Teaching Scheme.
The photographs will also serve to inform parents about the identity of their children’s teachers. This increased awareness will empower them to raise concerns if a teacher is absent without a valid reason.
It may be recalled that the State Government had earlier issued a similar order, but it was not followed in letter and spirit, hence the order has been issued again.
