Thug Life, Mani Ratnam’s long-awaited reunion with Kamal Haasan, is one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the film has now secured one of the biggest deals for satellite rights in the Tamil film industry. The report quoted film distributor Karthik Ravivarma as saying, “Yes, the deal is done. Netflix has bought the rights of Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece for a remarkable price. 149.7 crores. This is one of the biggest deals for a Tamil film.
He said, “Kamal Haasan’s business has increased significantly after Vikram, while Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan series has been well received by the audience. The announcement of their reunion created excitement and as the film approaches the final stages of shooting, the business has boomed and is set to scale new heights in Tamil cinema.”
With the massive sale of its satellite rights, Thug Life has surpassed Ajith’s upcoming film Good Bad Ugly. 95 crores), Surya’s Kanguva ( 100 crore), and Vijay’s The Goat or The Greatest of All Time ( Rs 110 crore)

The film is said to be a gangster drama. Thug Life is jointly produced by Raj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies. The film also stars Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Abhirami, Nasir, Ali Fazal and Rohit Saraf. The music of the film is given by AR Rahman. The film was announced last year on Kamal’s 69th birthday.
Thug Life sees Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam reuniting after 36 years. After Thug Life, Kamal Haasan will also be seen in S Shankar’s epic Indian 3 and the sequel to Nag Ashwin’s blockbuster Telugu dystopian science-fiction epic Kalki 2898 AD in a more prominent role than the first part. Starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan, the film will see Kamal reprise his role of the main antagonist Supreme Yaskin.
Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam last directed the two-part adaptation of the historical epic Ponniyin Selvan.
