‘Those who are playing tricks…’, Yeddyurappa’s first reaction when High Court stayed the POSCO case

Date:

Karnataka BJP leader and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa returned to Bengaluru on Saturday after the Bombay High Court stayed the warrant in the ongoing POSCO case against him. Reacting to the proceedings in the case, Yeddyurappa said it caused “unnecessary confusion” and that he would appear in court on July 17.

He said, “I went to Delhi as per schedule. I had already informed that I will come for the hearing on 17th of this month. The High Court has also issued an injunction. I am going for the hearing on Monday. They created unnecessary confusion.”

“I am not complaining against anyone. Time will decide everything. The public knows what the truth is. The people will teach a lesson to those who are playing tricks.”

Yediyurappa has been booked under the POCSO Act and Section 354 A (sexual assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who alleged that he molested her daughter during a meeting at his residence in Dollars Colony in Bengaluru on February 2 this year.

A Bengaluru court on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against Yeddyurappa, directing his immediate arrest. And on Friday, the Karnataka High Court issued an order stating that coercive proceedings of arrest and detention will be stayed till the next hearing. The high court order came after a letter from the petitioner (Yeddyurappa) volunteered to appear before the police on June 17.

The former chief minister said today, “Everyone knows everything and I have full faith in the judiciary. I will get justice. I will appear before the court on June 17.”

BJP leaders have alleged a “political conspiracy” against Yediyurappa.

Congress does not participate in vindictive politics

Meanwhile, reacting to the allegations by the BJP and the JD(S) that the Congress government in the state was indulging in vendetta politics, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he and his government had never indulged in such acts.

“When they (BJP) filed cases against us, was it not targeting? Cases were filed against me, DK Shivakumar (deputy chief minister), Rahul Gandhi (Congress leader), what should it be called? They cancelled Rahul Gandhi’s membership (of Lok Sabha). What should it be called?” Siddaramaiah asked.

He said, “Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to jail. Should this be called politics of hate or politics of love? These are the people who do politics of revenge. We will never do politics of revenge…I have not done so yet. I have not come into politics yesterday or today. This (politics of revenge) is the work of BJP.”
