Mahabat Tomb in Junagadh
Mahabat Tomb and Bahauddin Tomb are dedicated to Mahabat Khan II, the then Nawab of Junagadh State, and his minister Bahauddin Hussain. At that time the Nawab of Babi dynasty was ruling. The construction of the Mahabat Tomb was started in 1878 by Nawab Mahabat Khan II of the Babi dynasty and completed in 1892 during the reign of Nawab Bahadur Khan III. It contains the tomb of Mahabat Khan II. The tomb is a state protected monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1965. This mausoleum is known for its combination of Indo-Islamic, Gothic and European styles. It has onion shaped domes, French windows.
Uparkot Fort and Cave
Uparkot Fort is situated in the eastern part of Junagadh. A fort and town were established at the foothills of Girnar during the Maurya Empire and remained important until the Gupta Empire. Apart from this, Uparkot caves are also famous. Which are ancient man-made caves. These caves are part of the Junagadh Buddhist cave group. It is said that these caves were formed in the 2nd-3rd century after digging a 300 feet deep trench in Uparkot near Kadivav.
