Maize is cultivated the most here. But gradually the farmers here are wanting to do something different and are emphasizing on seasonal farming.
Bihar seasonal in Bengal
For the first time, seasonal cultivation was started here by farmer Gopal Singh, living in Tetri of Navgachia. Today he is cultivating it in 5 acres and has yielded a bumper crop. Seeing them, many farmers of Navagachia started cultivating seasonal vegetables. Today the situation is such that Navgachia season has left Bihar and has reached West Bengal. Farmers are getting good income from this.
seasonality in loamy soil
Farmer Gopal Singh told Local 18 that seasonal cultivation can also be done in loamy soil. Seasoning can also be planted in Matiyar. Unlike orange plantations, its cultivation is successful in the soil here. He has been cultivating it for the last 10 years. We were cultivating it in 15 acres, but due to inter cropping we are now cultivating it in 5 acres. He said that there is a saving of Rs 3 to 4 lakh per acre in seasonal season. If its market is found at the right time then the profit will be more. Its market is not available here on time. It is brought from outside and supplied in the local market. The seasonal season here reaches up to Siliguri.
Bihar’s climate is favorable for seasonality
Farmer Gopal Singh told Local 18 that seasonal plotting starts in August. He gets its sapling from Nagpur. It is cultivated extensively there. This plant is easily available in Nagpur. Mamta Kumari, a scientist at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, said that the cultivation of orange in Bihar is more successful than that of orange, because the temperature remains high here. Orange juice dries up due to high temperatures, but this is not the case with seasonal juice. Its cultivation is successful and there is less risk of disease.
