New Delhi. If you are troubled by international spoofed calls, then there is a relief news for you. Actually, the government has instructed telecom companies to block all incoming international spoofed calls displaying Indian mobile numbers.
In a statement issued on Sunday (May 26), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said that it has been reported that fraudsters are making fake international calls to Indian citizens by showing Indian mobile numbers and committing cyber crime and financial fraud.
Manipulation of the CLI by cybercriminals from abroad
According to the statement, such calls appear to be originating from within India but are being made by cyber criminals from foreign countries by manipulating the Calling Line Identity (CLI) and have been misused in recent cases like fake digital arrests, FedEx scams, drugs or narcotics in couriers, impersonating government and police officials, blocking mobile numbers by posing as DoT or TRAI officials, etc.
Instructions to stop international fake calls
According to the statement, ‘DoT and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have developed a system to identify such international fraudulent calls and prevent them from reaching any Indian telecom customer. Now instructions have been issued to TSPs to block such incoming international fraudulent calls.’
As per the instructions issued by Department of Telecommunication, international fraudulent calls coming to Indian landline numbers are already being blocked by TSPs.
