On this Theater Day celebrated across the world to honor the timeless art, veteran actor Piyush Mishra remembers the essence of theater and says, “It’s fun because there is live interaction. Whereas, Cinema My You catch the audience through a camera, so live interaction is not possible. Theater provides an opportunity for rehearsal, which is not present in cinema. You rehearse for at least two months to experiment and improve your performance. Can. Very important. The more you rehearse, the more your skills will be honed. It helps to grow continuously, because you are doing ten productions at a time. It gives positive results. On the other hand, for cinema a It takes a prepared actor, you don’t have to learn acting. You do it, take the money, and go home,” highlights the difference between cinema and theatre.
Reflecting on his journey, Mishra recalls his humble beginnings and shares, “In earlier days, I even did theater without money. But, pai binase ke nahi hota hai theatre. Aaj kal theater mai paisa hai. Gone are those days when big producers never Used to put their money into it. Having said that, paise nahi hota toh hum buut complain karte hain ki paisa nahi hai,” the 61-year-old continues, “Lekin jab paisa ajaata hai toh raamdev hojaate hain ki ab toh paise se It will happen, production values will change, so somewhere or somewhere the theater will produce money. The same has been going on for 40 years as I can see. This is how I have seen, I have also been wrong.”
He entered theater on his own but it was his mentor who always remained with him. “In Gwalior, I saw actors like Vijay Modak and Nana Gadwaikar, looking at them I wondered when we would be able to do such acting. And after coming to NSD, my German teachers there were Fritz Bennewitz, Naseeruddin Shah, NK Sharma and Ranjit. Kapoor, all of them were my gurus,” the actor adds.
Despite the challenges, Mishra remains optimistic about the future of theatre. “And, I don’t think theater is any less appreciated now, pehle se badh gaya hai,” he remarks, “It is a live art, it can never die. 120 years ago where was cinema, theatre, Shakespeare’s It’s been a long time.”
Sharing a recent anecdote, he tells us, “This time there was an Assam production called ‘Raghunath’, simply amazing. These people never saw the face of cinema, but they left our plays behind and Won several awards at the Mahindra Excellence in Theater Awards (META). META is one of the most prestigious theater competitions in India.”
“The best thing about theater is that it gives a chance to express emotions, it’s a good feeling. You can’t define that feeling. Hamlet is a performance that will always be in my heart, it’s my Shows are remembered more than your plays. For example, yesterday, the third show was my best and today is the first,” says Mishra.
As Mishra looks ahead, he plans to delve back into cinema, armed with a lineup of promising projects. “I don’t have any problem, it’s just fun while doing all the things. I enjoy singing, writing, acting and directing all at once. I haven’t done cinema since many days, next time I can focus on it,” concludes the actor. , whose lineup includes Azaad, Indian part 2, and web series Illegal part 3.
