Udupi Krishna Temple: Udupi is called ‘Mathura of South India’, because it is a sacred place for the devotees of Lord Krishna. The Krishna temple of Udupi is the center of faith for Krishna devotees. Every day a large number of devotees come here to see and worship Lord Krishna. This temple is considered to be the most beautiful idol of Lord Krishna, in which he is seated as Balakrishna, the form of his childhood.
No one can visit the idol directly in this temple. Here Lord Krishna has a vision of a small window with 9 pores. This temple is very unique and interesting in itself.
It is believed that God, pleased with the devotion of one of his devotees, made this window himself so that everyone can see him. This temple was established by Shri Madhvacharya in the 13th century and since then it is considered one of the most famous and holy temples in South India.
Have to wait for hours
The grand decoration of this temple is worth seeing on the occasion of Janmashtami. The temple is decorated with flowers, lamps and colorful lights, and devotees have to wait for hours to get a glimpse of God.
Another recognition
Another famous belief associated with the temple is that once Shri Madhvacharya saved a ship trapped in the sea from his divine powers. When the ship came to the shore, an idol of Shri Krishna was found in it, which was covered with the soil of the sea. Madhvacharya brought that idol Udupi and installed in this temple, which even today devotees worship with reverence.
