Nearly a decade after the hack of Ashley Madison users’ data that impacted the lives of countless users of the dating site seeking adulterous relationships, a Netflix documentary sheds light on the victims and talks about their experiences. The Canadian online dating service was launched in 2002, and had a viral tagline that read, ‘Life is short. have an affair.’ The website was hacked by The Impact Team in July 2015, leading to shocking revelations that affected the lives and relationships of millions of people. Names, descriptions, and email addresses associated with Ashley Madison were released to the public.
The new Netflix documentary on this difficult case lasts three episodes, each lasting 50 minutes, exploring the truth about some of the families affected, as well as giving some details about the company itself. The series’ official logline reads, “When a dating site for people looking for adulterous relationships is hacked, millions of users’ intimate data is exposed, marriages are ruined and lives are destroyed. “

In a statement to Netflix, series director Toby Patton said, “We all know that infidelity can be incredibly destructive and harmful, but at the same time, the fact that Ashley Madison had 37 million subscribers gives us another It shows what we all know – it’s about committing to it.” Having one person for the rest of your life is really difficult. Rather than scolding people for joining Ashley Madison, we were more interested in learning why they were attracted to the site. What were they looking for? What was going on in their relationship? And, importantly: What was their partner’s side of the story?”
