Buenos Aires: A terrible storm in Argentina has caused havoc. Argentina’s port city of Bahia Blanca received a year of rain in a few hours. The devastation is so much that 13 people died and hundreds of people became homeless from their homes. After Friday’s storm, four young girls of four and one year went missing after the flood waters were swept away. The hospital rooms drowned due to heavy rains. The locality turned into islands and electricity went into large parts of the city. National Security Minister Patrissia Bulrich said that Bahia Blanca has been ‘destroyed’.
Officials said that the death toll on Friday was 10, which increased to 13 on Saturday. According to the mayor’s office, more people are expected to be casualties. The city with a population of 350,000 is 600 km (370 mi) south-west from the capital Buenos Aires. Bulrich told Radio Mitre that the missing girls probably took flood water. At least five people were killed on flood -affected roads, possibly because they were trapped in their cars in rapidly growing water.
A year -long rain in 8 hours
According to Provincial Security Minister Xavier Alonso, the rains started on Friday morning, rained about 400 millimeters (15.7 inches) in just eight hours, which Bahia Blanca gets throughout the year. On Saturday, Bulrich and Defense Minister Luis Petri tried to visit an affected area, causing resentment among the local people. According to a video shared on social media, people complained that they should have come only last night.

People clean the roads after heavy rains.
Before the police and government officials could get them out of the crowd, some local people tried to pull Bulrich towards the flood water and called them objectionable words. For Environment Officer Andrea Duforg, this extreme weather phenomenon is ‘clear example of climate change’. Duforg is the Environment Policy Director of the city of Ituzango located near Buenos Aires. He said, “Unfortunately it will continue… We have no option but to prepare cities, educate citizens, establish an effective initial warning system.”
Children were expelled from hospital
Jose Penya Hospital had to be evacuated due to the storm, in which the news footage and the video shared on social media showed nurses and other medical staff to take the children to a safe place. Later the army helped him. About 1.5 meters (five feet) dirty water was flooded in the office of Doctor Eduardo Seminara. He told the local channel C5N, ‘Everything has been wasted’. Local media showed pictures of flood -affected shops and reported looting overnight.
