Pithoragarh / Himanshu Joshi: The road may have reached the China border adjoining Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. But, travelling on it is still very risky. The Tawaghat Lipulekh road connecting Kailash Mansarovar in Pithoragarh is still under construction, due to which this road does not come under the standards of RTA Regional Transport Authority.
These days, the pilgrimage to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat is going on. Hundreds of travellers are travelling on this road. The work of this road is with the BRO, which is not yet complete. Due to being under construction, this road still remains dangerous for transportation.
Permission will be granted only after the work is completed
This road will get permission from the RTA only when its work is completed. Only after this will this road come under the standards for transportation. When information was sought from the District Magistrate of Pithoragarh in this regard, he told that when the BRO will complete the road construction work. Only after that this road can be handed over to the concerned department.
There are more than 100 danger zones on the road
Due to under construction, there are more than 100 danger zones on this road. Many accidents have occurred here due to being hit by debris and boulders. Many people have also lost their lives due to this. Since 2017, more than 25 people have died tragically in 10 different accidents here.
Transportation is not allowed at the moment
When information regarding this was taken from Pithoragarh ARTO Krishna Singh Paldia, he said that right now traffic is not allowed on this under construction road. Survey has been done twice for permission and talks are being held with BRO officials. The local people here consider haphazard road cutting to be the cause of road accidents.
Who is responsible if an accident occurs?
Overall, the path of devotees coming to Adi Kailash is not easy yet. Considering the faith of the people and the needs of the local people living here, traffic is moving on this road. But currently no one is responsible for road accidents.
