The new Parliament building is a “five-star jail” and its productivity is much lower than the previous setup, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut took a dig at the BJP government while talking about the Central Vista in New Delhi.
“One should look at the condition of the Central Vista in New Delhi,” Raut jokingly told media persons and added that “the new Parliament is like a five-star jail where you cannot work.”
In May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s new Parliament building worth Rs 971 crore in Delhi, which can accommodate 888 members in Lok Sabha and 300 in Rajya Sabha. However, teething issues emerged during a special session in September. Some opposition MPs complained of visibility challenges, saying binoculars were needed to see each other inside the complex.
‘If India comes to power, the parliamentary session can be moved back to the old building’
The Rajya Sabha leader also indicated that if the opposition India faction comes to power at the Centre, the parliamentary session could be moved back to the old building.
“When we form our government, we will start our Parliament session in our historic Parliament,” he said.
Earlier this week, Raut said members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance on Wednesday agreed on the seat-sharing formula in Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and it will be announced soon.
“Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, state Congress president Nana Patole and Prakash Ambedkar will meet to give final approval to the deal and it will be announced at a press conference,” the Rajya Sabha member said.
Patole, Prithviraj Chavan, Varsha Gaikwad, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leaders Jayant Patil, Jitendra Awhad and Anil Deshmukh and Sena (UBT) attended the meeting between Congress, NCP-Sharad Chandra Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT). Sanjay Raut and Vinayak Raut
Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats, the second highest number of seats after Uttar Pradesh (80).
