West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: As the assembly election season approaches the eastern state, hence fault between political leaders. The MLA of Haldia constituency Tapasi Modal has created a second switch to its political career. Haldia MLA was elected as a member of a Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 2016, but later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2020. On 10 March 2025, Tapasi Mondal joined the Trinmool Congress (TMC) led by CM Mamata Banerjee, a party that he had outstanding in 2021.

The next West Bengal Legislative Assembly election will be held in March or April 2026. This election will determine the structure of the 294 -member West Bengal Legislative Assembly for the next five -year term. The current term of the assembly ends on May 7, 2026.

MLA Tapasi Mondal joined TMC in Kolkata on Monday, March 10.

Tapasi Mondal was expelled from CPI (M)

In the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, Tapasi Mondal was nominated to contest as a candidate for the Left Front Alliance in West Bengal.

Tapasi Mondal’s primary rival TMC candidate was Madhurima Mandal.

In the results of the assembly elections, Tapasi Mondal saw emerging as a candidate winning with a difference of more than 21,000 votes, voting 50.17 percent, which was 39.53 percent of the votes cast in favor of Madhurima Mandal.

In December 2020, Mondal was expelled from her party when she announced that she intends to join BJP.

Tapasi Mondal helped BJP to make CPM stronghold – Haldia

Once the Communist Party of India (Marxist), a stronghold of Haldia, with a neighbor Khajuri, who saw violence during the anti -Nandigram land acquisition protests, which took TMC to power, saw a political brainstorm in 2021.

Haldia MLA from the left front was Tapasi Mandal, then BJP candidate, and Suvendu Officer, who had ensured a sweep for TMC in Purba Medinipur district in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll, also convicted BJP’s star candidate.

In 2021, Bengal CM and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee expressed their affinity for Haldia recalling previous struggles with CPM. He warned that the BJP government would endanger the port and steel industry of the city, threatening local livelihood. However, in February of that year, PM Narendra Modi announced infrastructure projects 4,700 crores in Haldia.

Tapasi Mondal accused TMC of bombing her house

On January 29, 2021, Tapasi Mondal alleged that the raw bombs were thrown at his residence at his residence by “TMC goons” by “TMC goons” by “TMC goons” in an attempt to “create fear psychosis” among the local people before the 2021 Bengal assembly elections.

In 2021, the Saffron Camp alleged that Haldia Suvendu was looking after the political disturbances since the Adhikari, which has a significant impact in the region, turning from the ruling TMC to BJP.
