A private marketing employees working on a private marketing firm in Kerala have been accused of subjugating their weak employees to punish their knees, including crawling on their knees like dogs and licking coins from the floor, Udayavani.
The State Labor Department has initiated an investigation into the allegations, which emerged through local media reports quoting former employees. The phenomenon is believed to be associated with the operation of a firm in Kalur, with an alleged abuse in a partner unit in Perumbavur.
He said that Kerala Labor Minister V Shivkutty strongly reacted, “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and directed the District Labor Officer to submit a report regarding the incident after investigating”, he said that he said that Udayavani. He described the claims as “shocking and disturbing”, saying, “It cannot be accepted at any cost in a state like Kerala.”
Employees allegedly told a local television channel that those who failed to achieve the target were forced to regularly crawl on the floor or to perform other derogatory acts under the firm management instructions.
Police have confirmed that while no formal complaints have been received yet, they are aware of the allegations. “No case has been registered so far and an investigation is going on,” said an official. The owner of the Kalur-based firm has denied participation, claiming that the alleged harassment may be in a separate company in Permbavur that marketed his products.
This incident has also caught the attention of rights bodies. The Kerala State Human Rights Commission registered a case after receiving a complaint from the High Court counsel Kulthur Jaisihis. Separately, Kerala State Youth Commission has initiated its investigation and directed the District Police Chief to submit a report.
