Special events related to pregnancy are organized in many areas of North India. Awadh and Sultanpur have one such unique tradition, which is called ‘Sathr’ tradition.
Under this tradition, a special puja is performed in the seventh month of the pregnant woman. The women of the puja family concludes together, and after that a mass banquet is performed. It is believed that the baby caused by this ritual remains healthy and avoids any type of disease.
These are the only people
Local woman Lalita Devi said that this tradition is being played from generations. Only the women of the family participate in it, and they perform the whole puja. Men have no role in this.
Special importance of sprouted gram
Sprouted gram has special significance in this puja. According to belief, just as a new plant is born from sprouted gram, similarly this tradition is considered a symbol of the arrival of new life.
Can there not be harm by not worshiping?
According to public belief, families where this tradition is played, if a generation leaves it, may increase the risk of their future child being unwell. This is the reason why people consider it necessary to worship Sathr Devi in the seventh month of conception.
