Coldest habitat on Earth: It is extremely cold these days in Northern India. There is fog on the roads of Delhi-NCR in the morning. Here, when the temperature reaches three-four degrees, it is believed that the cold is now at its peak. However, the situation is different in the hilly areas of Northern India. Here, after the temperature drops to minus, there is heavy snowfall. But there are some places in the world where it is always extremely cold. There is also a place among them where the temperature sometimes goes up to -60 degrees in winter. We are talking about the world’s coldest inhabited area, Oymyakon town of Russia.

In Russian, Oymyakon means the one that never freezes. But contrary to its name, Oymyakon remains frozen in almost every season. The average temperature in Oymyakon town of Russia during winter season is around -50 degrees Celsius. However, despite such severe cold, about 500 people live in this city. During the winter season, snow accumulates on the eyelids. Here people keep their vehicles running 24 hours. Because once it stops, their engine will not start. Many times tears come when they go out here and they even freeze due to cold.

People here eat only meat
People living in this city have to face many such changes, which are difficult to even imagine. Apart from the capital city Yakutsk, this city is considered to be the coldest inhabited area in the world. From the food to the way of living of the people living here, everything is special. Due to such cold, the residents here eat only meat to survive. That too of reindeer and horse. Apart from reindeer meat, variety of frozen meat is also available here. In which everything from fish to pigeon will also be found. To stay alive, people here eat everything that provides them warmth. There is no need of refrigerator here. People keep ice cream and meat and fish in the open which remain fresh for months.

School opens in -50 degrees
There is also a children’s school in this city. The average temperature of this place remains around -50 degrees Celsius. Despite such low temperatures, this school runs until the temperature reaches -52 degrees Celsius. It is so cold here that even exercising is prohibited in winter. Because sweating in such cold can even lead to death.

There is light for only 3 hours a day
During the winter season, there is barely three hours of light a day here. The rest of the time there is darkness. However, during the summer season, there is daylight for 21 hours and night for only three hours. This town situated near the Yakutsa region of Siberia is always a subject of research for people all over the world. People wonder how people would live in such cold, what they would eat, what they would think. Different types of thoughts keep coming in the minds of people regarding this place. In the year 2015, a team of some photographers from New Zealand reached here. He did not come out of the hotels for a long time due to cold.

Temperature remains -10 degrees in summer
The most interesting thing is that due to cold, everything from pen ink to drinking water in glasses freezes here. Till date mobile phone service has not been started here. If media reports are to be believed, the temperature here even goes below -60 degrees Celsius. In 1933 the mercury reached -67 degrees Celsius. Which is the minimum temperature measured at this place. The temperature in Oymyakon remains -10 degrees even in summer.

How does livelihood work?
The biggest question that arises is what work do the people here do to live their lives. So let us tell you that people here work as ice fishermen. There is Lena river nearby. Where they catch fish from the ice and sell it in the nearby city of Yakutsk. Apart from this, people here also earn money by selling horse and reindeer meat. Also, the real income of the people here comes from tourists. Since 2011, the ‘Pole of the Cold’ festival is being celebrated in Yakutsk city. Oymyakon’s cultural groups go to Yakutsk and earn money.
