New Delhi [India]July 29 (ANI): Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia announced important achievements in the government’s fight against telecom fraud, which revealed that the Santhra Sathi Portal was used by citizens of 15.5 crore, which is a major milestone in the digital safety initiative.

Talking to the media, Minister Scindia exposed the dramatic effect of coordinated-fraud measures, stating that the spoof calls have been reduced by 97 percent.

The minister announced, “Earlier, we were receiving 1.35 crore spoof calls per day. Now these calls have reduced.”

The government’s multi-dimensional approach has achieved impressive results in various fronts.

A total of 1.75 crore phone numbers have been canceled to cross individual boundaries, while the additional 82 lakh mobile connections were cut off using AI-managed AST (Artificial intelligence and facial recognition) system for AI-managed AST (Telecom SIM subscriber verification) system.

AST technology has proved effective in identifying the connection obtained through fake or fake documents.

Authorities have blocked 5.1 lakh mobile handsets and disintegrated 24.46 lakh WhatsApp accounts suspected of fraud activities. Additionally, 20,000 bulk SMS sectors have been blacklisted to prevent large -scale fraud messaging operations.

CEIR (Central Equipment Identification Register) Facility has secured more than 3.5 million lost or stolen mobile devices. Of these, 21.35 lakh equipment has been detected and 5.07 lakhs were successfully recovered and returned to their owners.

The Sanchher Sathi Portal has emerged as an important tool in the fight against telecom fraud, with over 2 million daily users over 16 million visitor hits.

The platform provides real -time data and enables citizens to report issues through features such as “not my number” and “not essential” services.

The CEIR feature of the portal allows users to report lost or stolen handsets to immediately block and trace in all telecom operators networks. This ensures that stolen equipment cannot be misused anywhere in India, which helps in improving traceability facilities.

DGP Cyber Crime Telangana Sikh Goyal highlighted the state’s extraordinary performance in mobile phone recovery.

He said, “Telangana is currently in the first place in the recovery of mobile phones in the country. By date, we have recovered and handed over 88,301 mobile phones and handed over,” he said.

Success in Telangana was held responsible for systematic training programs, where model officers were identified in each district and trained by CID by state level nodal officers. This structured approach has made Telangana a model to follow other states.

The government has taken decisive action against the International Spoof Call through the CORO (International Spufed Call Prevention System) launched in October 2024. Within 24 hours of deployment, the system blocked the 1.35 million spuff calls demonstrating immediate effectiveness.

To develop fraud strategy, telecom service providers have been directed to display “International Call” information for all calls arising from outside India. This helps citizens to make informed decisions to respond to such calls.

Additionally, 308 international carriers and aggregators have been repeatedly blocked the call sending spoof calls. In January 2025, complaints about international number fraud from 2,776 cases fell in single-numbers by June 2025.

The Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) has created a safe network of 620 organizations working as a national level watchdog. This includes central security agencies, 35 state police forces, telecom service provider and GSTN, creating a comprehensive security ecosystem.

The AST system has analyzed 134 crore mobile connections, which has disconnected more than 82 lakh fraud connections after rehabilitation. Technology detects cases where mobile connections have been acquired using various demographic and KYC details, but similar customer images, effectively identify fake document use.

As part of enforcement operations, more than 71,000 marks of sales have been blacklisted and 780 FIRs have been filed against fraud activities. (AI)
