New Delhi. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Devdas’ is one of Bollywood’s Cult films. The release of this film has passed almost 2 decades, but even today its story is inhabited in the hearts of people. Binod Pradhan, who has recently worked as a cinematographer for ‘Devdas’, said that during the shooting of the film, many weddings were postponed in Mumbai, because all the generators in Mumbai were available, all were called on the sets of ‘Devdas’.

The film ‘Devdas’ was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and he is known for making films on a big scale. He takes special care of every close in making his films. In ‘Devdas’, big havelis, shining chandeliers and every scene were decorated with special lighting. It was not surprising that the more electricity could be provided for shooting at that time, it was needed.

Many weddings stopped in Mumbai
During the interview with YouTube channel Friday Talkies, Binod Pradhan said, “There was a time when it was said that in Mumbai, they had to stop marriages or re-schedules them, because we used all the generators of the city. It was a very big place and I had to use a lot of generators for the lighting of that place. If a director supports you, then you can give your best.

Shooting was done in big sets
Vinod Pradhan said, ‘To be honest, I did not know that the sets would be so big. Actually, we had no hurry to shoot. In other films, we used to take 15-20 shots a day. Sometimes even 40, but in Devdas we were taking only 3-4 shots. Binod also told that the film was delayed due to lighting.

Lighting was more needed
He said, ‘It took time for the film to be made due to lighting. Paro’s house was full of glass. Lighting such sets is not easy. Apart from this, I do not work very fast and I need time for lighting of a scene. The same situation was also at Chandramukhi’s house. He was a kilometer long set and when I first saw it with my team, I was surprised. We made a complete round of the set, wondering how we will shoot the scene here.

Director had instructed
Binod said, ‘Sanjay (Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali) once told me not to compromise, just do good work. There was a time when there was a shortage of money for Devdas. Even then Sanjay told me not to compromise on anything. I was surprised, because I thought he would ask me to finish the shoot early, but I liked him and it is unfortunate that after Devdas we did not work on any other film.
