People do not believe in things like ghosts and witchcraft. But even today there are many places whose mysteries remain unsolved. After knowing about such places, one starts believing these things for a moment. Today we are going to tell you about one such place, which is near Naples, Italy. You will be surprised to know that people consider this island to be cursed. For this reason, despite being very close to the sea coast, people avoid going here. Its name is Giola Island. There are two small rocks connected by a bridge, as well as a crumbling villa and some small roads.
There are many reasons behind it being considered cursed. It is claimed that whoever lived here was either killed or died by drowning in water. At the same time, many people also disappeared. It is said that in the 19th century there lived a monk named Il Mago ‘The Wizard’, who one day mysteriously disappeared. After this it was bought by a wealthy fishing merchant Luigi de Negri, who built a villa which still stands today. However, soon after this he faced financial ruin.
Gaspare Albenga, a ship captain, expressed interest in purchasing the island of Giola in 1911, but shortly thereafter his ship crashed while navigating a rocky area and he drowned. Local people say that neither the body nor the wreckage of the ship was ever discovered after this accident. At the same time, Swiss businessman Hans Braun took over the island in the 1920s, but he was murdered soon after. Later his wife drowned in the sea.
This series of accidents did not stop here. This island was later purchased by German perfume dealer Otto Grünbach. Later he died of a heart attack. Another owner of this island was Swiss pharmaceutical industrialist Maurice Yves Sandoz, who after purchasing it went mad and took his own life. However, the island became considered even more cursed when it was purchased by Fiat company owner Gianni Agnelli, the richest man in modern Italian history. But soon after purchasing it, his son committed suicide.
American-born British petroleum industrialist Jean Paul Getty was also once the owner of Giola Island. But before he could buy it, his son committed suicide and his grandson was kidnapped in 1973. At the same time, insurance company owner Gianpasquale Grappone was the last owner of this island, who was jailed due to unpaid debts. It has since become the property of the government of the Campania region, which declared it part of the Giola Underwater Park and designated the area as a marine protected area.
