Moscow. A large-scale cyber attack has been carried out on the remote electronic voting system being used for the first time in Russia. On Saturday, Xinhua news agency quoted the head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, as saying that 30,000 attacks were carried out targeting the monitoring portal of the remote electronic voting system.
Pamfilova said attacks increased on Saturday compared to Friday. Vadim Kovalev, head of the election observation team in Moscow, said on Saturday that these attacks were carried out from America and Britain. Kovalev said, ‘Most of the servers from which the attacks are taking place are located in America and Britain.’

Voting for the presidential election in Russia started on March 15 and will end on March 17. Remote electronic voting was started for the first time in some parts of the country. The candidates running in this election are incumbent President Vladimir Putin, Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party; Nikolai Kharitonov of the Russian Communist Party, Vladislav Davankov of the New People Party and an independent candidate are trying their luck.

According to the report of news agency Xinhua, more than 90 thousand polling stations have been set up across the country. Voting started first in Kamchatka and Chukotka located in the Far East. Voting will be held last in Kaliningrad, located on the western edge of Russia.
According to the data released by the Russian Central Election Commission, about 11 crore voters can exercise their franchise in the elections. According to the Election Commission, the election results will be declared before March 28.
