Know what was written in the scammer’s message

Using the name and image of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on his social media handles, the fraudster X (formerly Twitter) user asked for Rs 500. Posing as the CJI, the scammer said he needed a taxi to attend a collegium meeting and asked for money from a user named Kailash Meghwal.

The fraudster made the request, promising to return the money once he approached the Supreme Court. A screenshot of the post shows that the fraudster was “stuck” in Delhi’s Connaught Place (CP).

As per the Hindustan Times report, the message said, “Hello, I am the CJI and we have an urgent meeting of the Collegium and I am stuck in Connaught Place, can you send me Rs 500 for a cab?” Moreover, to add a touch of authenticity to the message, the scammer followed the above message with another text that read “Sent from iPad.”

The incident comes a few months after a similar incident in which a 42-year-old man was arrested in March this year for duping two people. Posing as a Delhi Police Crime Branch inspector, the man allegedly duped people of Rs 4 lakh. The fraudster executed the scheme under the guise of selling luxury cars and expensive cellphones that were allegedly auctioned at huge prices by Delhi courts. Following this, he was arrested in a fraud case registered at the Sabzi Mandi police station in January.
