Joaquin Phoenix’s Napoleon performance didn’t impress Brian Cox.

‘Walkin’ Phoenix’

Speaking at HistFest on Wednesday, Bryan described Joaquin’s actions as ‘horrible’. “Terrible. It’s horrible. A really horrible performance by Joaquin Phoenix. It’s really horrible. I don’t know what he was thinking. I think it’s completely his fault and I don’t think Ridley Scott is his Helps. I play it better than Joaquin Phoenix, I tell you it’s good drama, no – that’s a lie!

He also gave Joaquin a bad name. “I think his name is good. Joaquin…whackin…whacky. “It’s kind of a weird performance.”

Twitter reacts

Joaquin’s fans are calling out Bryan. One person wrote, “Why is a great actor hating another great actor?” Another Twitter user said, “Irate old man.” “Oh he’s a certified hater,” one tweet read.

However, some people also agreed with him. “Well, he’s not wrong about that. This is JP’s worst performance so far in his entire career. Ridley should have gone with Jesse Plemons + Daniel Radcliffe + Haley Joel Osment instead, those amazing actors would have given a better Napoleon than Fenix! Another person wrote, “I have to agree; Joaquin is one of the best actors of his time, but this was a misstep (definitely due to the writing/directing). Every great actor has a few flaws (except Daniel Day Lewis and Jack Nicholson).

Brian also expressed his views on former US President Donald Trump in the program. “America is very hard to govern, and you certainly don’t need idiots like Trump to do it,” Cox said. “I think Biden is a good man but he’s too old.” When asked if he would leave the United States if Trump was re-elected, he said, “I probably would.”

Brian played media mogul Logan Roy on HBO’s hit family drama Succession. He is also known for his work in Troy, X2 and others.
