According to an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has established new requirements for testing and certification of satellite devices to be used within India, including gateway and user terminals.
In such a situation, when the companies are waiting for the government to finalize the rules of spectrum allocation, meanwhile, these changes in the niyams indicate that the storlink is not much time to come here.
Approval only for certified equipment
Only certified equipment can be used to provide satellite communication series in the country. It has been made unworthy since August 2024. On February 25, the DOT i.e. the Department of Telecommunications has issued standards for assessment related to 14 types of telecommunications equipment, including the non-eminent class (NGSO) satellite equipment including Integrated Gateway and User Terminal. This mandate is going to be effective after 180 days of the notification date.
On the other hand, the mandate that was implemented in late August, after that, it is said that without the necessary testing and certification of the telecom engineering center, no person or institution will not import, sell, distribute or use the telecom equipment identified. This compulsory test and certification scheme for telecommunications equipment was launched in the year 2019. Its purpose was to find out whether telecommunications equipment, not affecting the operation of existing networks negatively. The scheme has been launched in several stages, which gives details of the products included in the latest declaration Phase-5, which includes satellite communication equipment.
