According to the Counterpoint Research report released on Monday, after the processor comes battery life, storage capacity and camera quality. It is noteworthy that in the third quarter of the financial year 2024, India’s smartphone market has emerged as the second largest market in the world in terms of unit volume.

According to the report, due to increasing dependence on smartphones, consumers have now become more cautious and aware in their decisions. The report says that consumers are ready to spend more on faster processors for better performance. 28 percent of the respondents in the survey believed that the performance of the processor has a direct impact on the overall performance of the device.

Priority to spend on processor
According to the report, processor speed is at the top in terms of spending more for additional features, with 16 percent people willing to spend more. After this comes battery life (13 percent) and 5G connectivity (12 percent). Senior Research Analyst Shivani Parashar said, “Processor performance has become the main factor while buying a smartphone. “84 percent consumers understand the role of chipset in smartphones.”

Importance of AI-powered processor
The smartphone experience is becoming more personalized with the development of GenAI. Chipset companies are now moving beyond simple connectivity and focusing on AI-powered processors, which provide faster and smarter experiences. The survey also revealed that consumers are well familiar with major chipset brands like Qualcomm, Exynos and MediaTek.

India’s smartphone market is set for significant growth by 2025. It is expected to grow by 6 percent year-on-year due to improving consumer sentiment and government initiatives to reduce unemployment. According to the Counterpoint report, in the third quarter of 2024, India’s smartphone market has emerged as the world’s second largest market in terms of unit volume and third largest in terms of value. Smartphone volumes grew by 3 percent in Q3 2024, while value recorded an impressive 12 percent growth, an all-time record for a single quarter.
