It’s been a busy year Shweta Basu Prasad, who starred in three OTT releases ranging from Oops Now Kya?, Criminal Justice: A Family Matter to the fourth season of the recently released Maharani. The actress says she is grateful to have consistent work despite being very selective about her choices, adding that she turns down most of the projects that come her way.
being selective
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Shweta revealed that she has no hesitation in turning down projects, even if it means spending six months at home between programs.
,I can’t really complain because I’m working constantly. But yes, I am selective. That’s why I have an audience that believes in me… creating that space is so important. I am very conscious about choosing my roles. And I may be horribly wrong in my choices in the future. If I go wrong with my choices, I will learn it,” Shweta tells us.
She adds, “But I’m not afraid to experiment. I’m not afraid to say no to projects. In fact, I’ll say no to 9 out of 10 projects that come to me. And it’s okay if I sit at home for 6 months. I’ll wait.”
Shweta says that her simple lifestyle gives her the freedom to be selective in her work.
The actor, who has worked in television and Hindi cinema, says, “I don’t have all those expenses and frills in my life, where I have to live up to people’s expectations and keep doing photoshoots, while having full respect for my colleagues and peers to do so. I don’t have this constant pressure to be active and be in that party… I don’t subscribe to that journey. So, it’s easier for me to go underground and then resurface when the work is done.” Telugu cinema and Tamil cinema.
roles coming her way
Over the years, Shweta has been a part of diverse projects like Makdi, Iqbal, Tashkent Files, Serious Men, Jubilee, Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper and season four of Maharani, which was released. SonyLIV on 7th November.
The actress admits that she is getting interesting roles. Talking about her approach towards choosing a role, Shweta said, “I am an audience first and an actor second. It is very important that whatever I choose is something that I want to watch.”
“Really good roles are coming. People are getting experimental with their writing and their styles, it’s a myth that the audience doesn’t get it. The audience gets everything. They see all kinds of projects. That’s why producers are getting adventurous.. It’s a great time to be an actor because there’s so much to explore. However, I take one day at a time, one project at a time. So, I don’t know what I’m looking for,” she adds.
On the memories of the Queen
led by Huma Qureshi, political drama revolves around the politics of the state of Bihar. It also stars Vipin Sharma, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar and Kani Kusruti. Season 4 is written by Subhash Kapoor, Nandan Singh and Umashankar Singh. Subhash Kapoor is also the producer of this series.
For Shweta, entering the world of Maharani was easy because “it’s a very warm set”. “Subhash Kapoor, Huma and the rest of the core Maharani team have created a nice township that one can come and settle down in. And that’s exactly how I felt. I felt like a very comfortable resident in the township they have created. I felt at home,” she concludes.
