Shruti Haasan says her parents’ divorce made her realize the value of financial independence
Talking about being financially independent, Shruti Haasan said, “Look, I was born in a very beautiful family. Lots of luxuries thanks to artistic, intelligent parents and God’s grace. But I have also seen the other side of it. When my parents separated, everything changed. That’s when I realized the value of financial independence, independence dependent on personality. Especially being a daughter and seeing momma walk away from the marriage, it taught me an important lesson as to why it is important for a woman to be independent.”
She further discussed the impact of the divorce of her parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, and said, “It hurts. Not only children but parents also feel pain. It is a common part of many homes today. It is not that parents get divorced or separated and then feel pain. There are homes where parents stay together for the sake of society and sometimes there is more pain in those homes because it is hidden.”
Shruti was born in 1985 before the marriage of Kamal and Sarika. After their marriage, the couple welcomed another child – Akshara, who is also an actor. After divorce, Sarika raised both the sisters.
