In an interview with HT lifestyle, Dr. Sucheta Parts, Consultant – Obstaterisian and Gencologist in Maternity Hospitals in Lullanagar, Pune, revealed, “Pelvic inflammatory disease is usually caused by bacteria, often caused by untreated sexual infection infection (STI), and may move forward It is a significant complication that is left untouched. Understanding is necessary in ensuring initial diagnosis and timely medical intervention, eventually the protection of reproductive health.

Complications due to PID:
Dr. Sucheta Part shared, “Complications caused by pelvic inflammatory disease include infertility, chronic pelvic pain and ectopic pregnancies. PID cannot go to anyone in its initial stage because it often develops due to any type of visual symptoms. Some women may not even know that PID is diagnosed until it becomes serious. One should actively look for signs that can indicate the piD occurrence. ,
Signs and symptoms:
Dr. Sucheta Part exposed, “Symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease cause extreme pain during intercourse, fever, abnormal vaginal discharge and pelvic pain. If the PID is left untreated for a long period, it can cause permanent damage to the reproductive organs. It makes it important to consult a doctor immediately for quick diagnosis. ,

How do unprotected sex and poor hygiene contribute to PID?
- Unsecured sex and STI: The infected that may be infected by having unprotected sex with your partner may increase the possibility of contracting PID. Sexual transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can enter your reproductive system at the time of sexual intercourse. Without safety during intercourse, these infections can easily spread bacteria and are more likely to cause PIDs. Using safe sex practices such as going for regular STI testing and using condoms can help reduce the possibility.
- Many sexual companions: Being several sexual partners may increase the risk of exposure to STI. It can leave PID further if left untreated.
- Poor hygiene practice: Cleanliness plays an important role for STI or PID. Poor hygiene can cause harmful bacteria to enter your genital area. These bacteria can move forward in your reproductive organs due to PID. Before and after sexual intercourse cannot clean your genital areas, increase the possibility of infection. Always maintain intimate hygiene during intercourse for the betterment of your health.
- Delay in medical attention to symptoms: If you start having any abnormal symptoms such as pain in your pelvic region, excessive pain during intercourse and no unusual symptoms for white vaginal discharge, consult a doctor immediately. These symptoms can be a sign of PID. Not consulting a doctor or avoiding treatment may allow the infection to spread further due to PID.
