There will be a 15 percent discount on the purchase of new transport vehicles running on CNG or LPG. There will be a 10% discount on the purchase of new diesel-powered transport vehicles.The total tax exemption will not exceed 50 per cent of the scrap value of the vehicle.
New Delhi. The government has planned to give concession in motor vehicle tax on the purchase of a new vehicle on selling a 10-year-old diesel or 15-year-old petrol vehicle to scrap dealers registered in Delhi. In this regard, the Transport Department of the Delhi Government has prepared a proposal and sent it to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for approval. If approval is received from the LG, then soon this exemption will be implemented by issuing a notification in this regard.
Tax exemption will be given on the purchase of passenger vehicles falling under the non-transport category and vehicles of transport category used for commercial purposes. The Delhi government believes that giving tax exemption will help in removing old vehicles from the roads that cause pollution in the national capital. Tax exemption on buying a new vehicle will make that vehicle cheaper for people, which will also benefit them financially.

How much discount will you get
Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot gave information about this scheme on Friday. He said that after this proposal is approved by the Lieutenant Governor, there will be a 20 percent discount on the Motor Vehicle Tax taken at the time of registration of vehicles on purchasing new vehicles running on petrol, CNG or LPG in the non-transport category. At the same time, there will be a 15 percent discount on purchasing new diesel vehicles in the non-transport category.
In the case of transport vehicles, a 15 percent discount will be given on the purchase of new transport vehicles running on petrol, CNG or LPG, while a 10 percent discount will be given on the purchase of new transport vehicles running on diesel. However, in the case of both categories of vehicles, the total tax exemption will not exceed 50 percent in proportion to the scrap value of the vehicle.
You can get discount by depositing certificate of deposit
The Delhi government will issue a Certificate of Deposit to people in exchange for old vehicles handed over for scrapping at the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF). On submitting this certificate to the dealer, the tax levied at the time of registration of new transport and non-transport vehicles will be waived. The validity of the Certificate of Deposit is three years.
