New Delhi. If you are fond of Hindi cinema, then you must have gone to the cinema halls and watched the movies. You must have eaten a lot of popcorn during the intervals in these movies. But do you know that a veteran filmmaker of Hindi cinema had made a movie without interval. Vinod Khanna was going to be the hero of this movie. But he refused to do the movie and luck shone on a star for whom this movie proved to be the third consecutive hit in his career.
This film was ‘Ittefaq’ released in the year 1969. Rajesh Khanna got this film also from ‘Ittefaq’. There is no interval in this 1 hour 41 minute film. Actually, this is the story of the time when Yash Chopra was making ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’ for BR Films. The film had big actors like Dharmendra, Feroz Khan, Saira Bano and Mumtaz. The entire unit of the film was of BR Films’ regular employees and its shooting was going on on a very large scale.
The film ‘Ittefaq’ made by coincidence
Suddenly Saira Banu fell ill. The actors were somehow convinced and the dates were changed, but the technicians were sitting idle. On this the Chopra brothers decided to make a film immediately. While the search for the story for the film was going on, Yash Chopra, who was fond of watching theatre, saw a Gujarati play ‘Dhummas’ one day. Yash Chopra liked the play very much. He went to see the play the next day with the entire story department of BR Films. Everyone liked the story. It was also known that this play was based on an English film ‘Signpost to Murder’. Yash Chopra had already decided to make a film on this play by then. The story of the film was written in 1 week. As soon as Akhtar ul Iman got the script, he quickly wrote its dialogues and Yash Chopra shot the entire film in just 28 days.
I saw the Gujarati drama. Yash Chopra had made this film in 28 days.
The pair of Rajesh Khanna and Nanda stole hearts
Rajesh Khanna and Nanda won the hearts of fans with their acting in the film. This film was important in many ways. Yash Chopra started his own company Yash Raj Films after this film. Yash Chopra also made his first film ‘Daag’ with Rajesh Khanna, which proved to be a big hit.
Three stars had rejected the film
The making of the film ‘Ittefaq’ was not that easy. Sanjay Khan was approached for the lead role of the film, but the amount of money Sanjay Khan asked for this film was more than the budget of the film. After this, both Shashi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna were approached. But for some reason, they could not become a part of the film. Meanwhile, this story reached Rajesh Khanna and he agreed to do it.
The actress of the film was also not the first choice
Rajesh Khanna also promised that he would not talk about money in this regard and would take money according to the budget of the film. In 1969, the film ‘Ittefaq’ was released after ‘Bandhan’ and ‘Aradhana’ and it proved to be the third film of Rajesh Khanna’s first hat-trick of hit films. Like Rajesh Khanna, the heroine of the film Nanda was also not the first choice of the makers for this film. Before her, two other actresses were approached for this film. But when things did not work out, Nanda got the film and the film proved to be a success. The pairing of Rajesh Khanna and Nanda was also liked a lot in the film.
