Hailing the announcement, state Women and Child Welfare Minister D Anasuya Seethakka thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the decision.
The Telangana government on Thursday decided to observe January 3 every year, the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, as ‘Women Teachers’ Day’ to honor the late social reformer and teacher’s contribution to women’s education.
State Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari issued a government order to this effect.
The government announced that the day would be celebrated as a state function.

Meanwhile, BRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao recalled the contribution of Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai towards the empowerment of women and welfare of deprived sections.
When BRS was in power, it had started several programs for women empowerment and women’s education, inspired by the Phule couple, he said in a statement.
