Saroj Sharma not removed from post of chairperson, sent back as per her request: NIOS

Former National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) chairperson Saroj Sharma has not been removed from the post but has been sent back to her parent cadre as per her request, the institute said on Saturday.

NIOS said in a statement, “Professor Sharma has not been removed by the Centre. He had requested for premature repatriation from his role to join IITE, Gandhinagar and it has been received from the Central Government in accordance with the prescribed procedure for return to the parent organisation. Was according to.” ,

Sharma was at the center of controversy when a case was registered against her by the Delhi Police in connection with the suicide of her driver, who had written to the Education Ministry accusing her of harassment and caste discrimination.

Earlier this month, the Gujarat government had canceled Sharma’s appointment as vice-chancellor of the Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE). He was appointed to the post on September 5 but had not yet taken charge.

“I had requested for premature repatriation from my role to join IITE-Gandhinagar as Vice-Chancellor a month ago and this was as per the prescribed procedure of repatriation to the parent organization from the Central Government. In such cases, approval is required Sharma said, along with DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training), there is also a need for Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

“I had requested the Gujarat government to give me some more time to join, but due to procedural delay in my premature return home, it appointed someone else as the vice-chancellor there,” he said.

Sharma has been sent back to his parent department at Delhi’s Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

He declined to comment on the suicide controversy, saying “the investigation is ongoing”.
