Ray Chan, longtime art director of Marvel Studios’ production design department, has died. Rey died earlier this week, according to a Friday statement from Marvel Studios. As reported by Deadline, he was 56 years old. Also read: Benji Films writer and director Joe Camp dies at 84
Who was Ray Chan?
He was best known for his work on multibillion-dollar Marvel blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, as well as the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine. Ray Chan is survived by his wife Lindsay and their children Caspar and Sebastian.
‘Ray was unique’
Remembering Ray, actor Ryan Reynolds said in a statement to Deadline that the late art director was “just as valuable a creative force as the writers, directors and stars of Deadpool and Wolverine. … He built a world from scratch – And that’s what he did most of all.” Ray was unique in his collaborative and inclusive approach.”
Hugh Jackman also expressed his condolences
Actor Hugh Jackman wrote on Instagram Stories, “I am heartbroken to hear the sad news about Ray Chan. There was not a single day of shooting when I did not marvel at his creation. He created magic. It had this look His eyes. As someone who loves his art, I’ve been blessed to work with the best people in the business.”
Hugh also shared how Ray was always on top and felt grateful to spend “bonus time” with him two weeks ago.
“It’s time for him to finish the work he loved so much. He told a great story. And man – I’m so honored to play a role. My heart goes out to Ray’s family and friends Rest well, Ray Chan,” the note concluded.
